Before you go for a Gorilla trek, it is better you know first about what it takes for Gorilla Trekking in Uganda, Rwanda or DR Congo.

Highlighted below are the must follow rules to know for any one who would wish to be part of a once in life time Gorilla Safari in Africa;

  • A maximum number of 8 visitors are allowed for each gorilla family per day.
  • Stay 7 meters away from the Gorillas after discovering them to avoid disturbance.
  • Always keep your voices low when you are near the Gorillas.
  • Don’t Eat, Drink  and Smoke when your near these apes.
  • You are not allowed to touch on these animals without permission.
  • Never use flush cameras when photographing these great apes.
  • When photographing move slowly and quietly to avoid scaring these animals.
  • You are allowed to stay around these animals for only one hour.
  • Don’t leave your rubbish in the park.
  • If you have any sign of infectious diseases, you are not allowed to go for the trekking expedition.
  • A void constant coughing.
  • Always wash your hands before heading for the Gorilla trekking experience.

Where are Mountain and Lowland Gorillas found?

  • Mountain Gorillas in Uganda are found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park only, there is no lowland Gorillas in Uganda.
  • Rwanda’s Mountain Gorillas inhabit the jungles of Volcanoes National Park.
  • In DR Congo, Mountain Gorillas are found in Virunga National Park and Lowland Gorillas are found in Kahuzi Beiga National Park. Note:Lowland Gorillas are only found in DR Congo’s Kahuzi Beiga National Park.

  • When you want to do Gorilla trekking either in Rwanda,Uganda or Congo its a must you have to buy a Gorilla trekking permit.
  • Uganda’s Gorilla trekking permit costs $700 per person.
  • Rwanda’s Gorilla trekking permit now costs$1500 per person.
  • DR Congo’s Gorilla trekking Permit cost $400 per person.

What to wear for Gorilla trekking

  • Wear comfortable hiking shoes suitable for steep muddy slopes.
  • Put on ear plugs for those who feel uncomfortable with the jungle sounds.
  • Carry a packed lunch and enough drinking water.
  • Carry rain gear, sunscreen lotion, a hat (as the weather is unpredictable) and insect repellent.
  • Bring a camera, using flashlight cameras is not allowed.
